Description:
Scripps is the only one of The Claremont Colleges with its own library. Denison Library functions as a non-circulating special collections library with comfortable and quiet spaces for study and research. While the library is currently closed, they are still able to provide students with research resources and offer digital access to various special collections.
Students may call (909) 607-3941 or email [email protected] to get in touch with Denison Staff and ask their research questions. Link to the different special collections can be found here. For the latest information about Denison Library and its collections, take a look at their e-newsletter, The Denison Dispatch!
Special Collections:
Among the library’s many distinguished holdings are materials focused on the history of the book and printing as well as the Macpherson collection of books by and about women. The Scripps College Archives provide materials on the history of the college and include the papers of the college’s namesake and founder, Ellen Browning Scripps. The library has a sizable collection of artists’ books, a genre which supports the interdisciplinary nature of the Scripps curriculum..The library has also traditionally collected materials related to art history, the performing and visual arts, and children’s literature.
In addition to sharing collections with students and faculty from all the Claremont Colleges through instruction sessions and reference inquiries, digitized materials are accessible online through the Claremont Colleges Digital Library; a rotating series of exhibits provides an opportunity to highlight the wide range of materials from the library’s collections.
